A July Surprise

On our farm…

Cool breezes, lower temperatures, and rain - all in July! And, might I add, during the traditional Dog Days when even the mildest may snap at someone due to the effects of extreme heat. There are still blackberries ripening, the chicory blossoms seem brighter than usual, and the pastures are a deep green. This morning a joyful chorus of Field Sparrows, Cardinals, and Indigo Buntings sang together, with the Blue Jay adding a kind of percussion. I know, summer is still coming. It’s just such a blessing to have an interlude, however brief.

TURKEYS. It was no surprise that the date to pick up our day old turkeys had arrived Monday. It was a real benefit that the weather was good enough for our friend Kip Glass to fly Jim up to get them. We were glad they had a safe flight. The turkey personality is so different from the chickens, very friendly.

WORKERS. It is amazing that every year we get such a great group of workers! They work hard to get you the very best chicken and turkey in good shape for your dining pleasure. We appreciate them so much.

ORDERS. Getting the turkeys marks the roughly halfway mark of our season. If you plan to order bulk chicken for your freezer for the winter, you might consider ordering it soon, before everyone else does, (which is late September and October).
Also, order your turkey as soon as you know you are going to need one. We do run out some years.

MOST OF ALL, we appreciate you. Your words of encouragement and appreciation go a long way. We always look forward to seeing you again. May your summer be wonderful.
