End to Dog Days in Sight

Newly Hatched Turkeys

IMG_20150810_070514

The turkey poults are here! Hatched early this morning in Osceola, Iowa, boxed, carefully loaded in our truck, and now they are safely in the brooder on our farm. We had to go to great lengths to find turkeys for this year, so there will be a limited supply. If you want any, please go to this link:  http://www.freshchickenandturkey.com/order/ (bottom of list) and order yours.

Hoop House beginning

The newest hoop house for poultry is started! Over a week ago our oldest son, Eli, came down from Rolla and welded the supporting pipes together. A few days ago our Hawaii cousin, John Spidle, helped run the pipes through the pipe bender to give them the hoop shape. The  pipe bender was designed and built by Jim earlier. The next step will be welding the hoop house base together. We are still gathering materials needed to complete the job.

On Our Farm

Even  with a relatively mild summer and air conditioning, we are all responding to the effects of hot, humid, sultry summer days -- that is, emotions are getting a bit raw. If you are also experiencing this, I would encourage you to endure, and for now to not pass any lasting judgments. Fall is coming, and Dog Days should be over soon! The rain, green grass, and flowers are still a wonder. Great for pastured poultry!
