For want of a nail the kingdom was lost*
We had a small taste of the above mentioned wisdom. On Monday our truck would not start after sitting for one hour on the parking lot at Second Baptist in Springfield. When it was determined that a mobile repair crew could not find the problem, we had the truck towed to our mechanic in West Plains. It was the first, and hopefully the last time I have ever ridden in a $400,000 tow truck. (I highly recommend McDowell Towing if you need a big truck towed). The crew at Rick's Truck Repair in West Plains found the problem, a $160.00 valve, (the "nail").
I share this story to illustrate how things have changed since we started in 1996. For the first several years, all the customers came to the farm. Now the majority of our poultry and beef takes a ride on our reefer truck. When that truck ("Whitey") breaks down, everything comes to a screeching halt. If you would have asked me years ago about the importance of a delivery truck, I would have scoffed and said, build (the business) and the customers will come. In the present age of time constraints, that adage is almost obsolete, although turkey days still generate a lot of farm customers. The blunt truth is this: if we want to sell pastured poultry, it not only has to taste good, but it has to be convenient to purchase.
