The Tale of the Traveling Turkey
It has been quite some time since I wrote about anything farm wise. We have been super busy as I am sure most of you have been also.
Today something happened that is nothing short of incredible. We put 590 baby turkeys out on the pasture. They are 24 days old and should have spent more time in the brooder, but they wanted outside and I was ready to take a chance. I knew they were small enough to fit through the pasture perimeter fence which has 3" spacing, but I figured the small birds would hang out with the older turkeys and not stray too far. Wrong.
Late in the afternoon we received a call from our neighbor to the west. Her son found one of our turkeys in their yard. They graciously brought the turkey back to our farm. I call the young explorer “Marsha (Marco) Polo” since it is a hen. I suspect that it traveled at least 1/3 of a mile.
Thank you all for your business this summer! Many of you have traveled a distance to pick up chicken here at the farm, in Springfield, and Rolla. We have a few more fresh chicken delivery dates coming up, order soon!
